Mathematical Problems in Radiative-Convective Balance of the Atmosphere Workshop: October 9-10, 2017

Location

This workshop was held at the Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI)  in Chapel Hill, NC

The atmosphere, when looked at in a vertical column, is dominated by the balance between radiative and convective forces. Many issues arise about whether the equilibrium balance is unique and the more complex dynamics  that may ensue. Kerry Emanuel has done important work in this area and visited UNC at Chapel Hill and SAMSI over a two day period. The goal of this small brainstorming workshop was to articulate accessible mathematical problems that promise to push forward our understanding of the atmospheric column.
